Knowledge Development Committee
The Knowledge Development Committee organizes projects that educate students in the field of science and develop their various skills by conducting training seminars or lectures, courses, a project on writing a scientific work, intellectual games, as well as holding foreign language clubs, translation department, classes about the oil and gas industry for schoolchildren, an educational event about ecology in the oil and gas industry, and other scientific and technical events.
Our Mission:
- To help students increase and improve their knowledge in the oil and gas field
- To increase the interest of students in science and research work
- To build the platform for experience and knowledge exchange between students and industry professionals

Within the committee are carrying out the following projects:
- Energy4Me
is a project directed on introducing schoolchildren to the oil and gas industry. It includes lections, lab sessions, visiting museums and excursions to different companies in offline and online formats.
The project covers many different topics such as “Oil and Gas Industry”, “Geology”, “Geophysics and GIS”, “Drilling and Development”, “Transportation”, “Petroleum Chemistry”, “Development Prospects of Fuel and Energy Complex” and “Ecology”. Participation in the project is an excellent career guidance which also helped many schoolchildren determine their future. The team of the
Project always requires the participation of interesting and active people. So we invite everyone interested in oil and gas industry to join us!
- Language Clubs
is a project organized by students for their peers. Students who are fluent in a foreign language teach it to the others.
The main aim of the project is to tutor students interested in languages. These skills would come in handy during their future careers, as some tasks in the oil and gas industry have to be fulfilled in a foreign language. Giving a look into Russian culture and Russian language, the project is meant to help students from abroad to blend into the Russian-speaking environment.
- Lectures from companies and specialists
It is an opportunity to learn something new, to develop your knowledge of oil and gas technologies and to communicate with real specialists. Representatives of Halliburton, Schlumberger, PJSC Novatek, PJSC Gazprom often take part as speakers.
Whole year course of lectures from leading specialists of Schlumberger is held. Each week specialists give lectures, they tell real stories, that can happen on a facility and during data processing, and share their practical experience, answer raised questions. Among listeners of the course there are students from such universities as MGRI-RGGU, MSU, RUDN, HSE, RUT MIIT, MIREA and Scoltech. Participants attending more than 80% of lections are provided with a certificate of successful finishing of the course.
- PetroOlympic Games
is an intellectual teamwork game about the oil and gas industry, similar to PetroBowl.
This game is held in English and Russian languages and was created to test students’ knowledge of the industry and to improve it. It is also aimed to prepare the best ones for PetroBowl, which is the main quiz of the SPE Student Chapters. The game takes place not only at the university, but also at company offices and international events. You may take part and test yourself by checking for a schedule on the official VK page of the project. If you wish to become an organizer of this awesome game, the team will warmly welcome you!
PetroBowl matches SPE student chapter teams against one another in a fast-paced quiz competition covering technical and non-technical aspects of the oil and gas industry.
- Science Education
- Translations Department
The aim of the project is to help Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter to acquire international recognition, as our work concerns translating reports, articles, and scientific materials within the framework of the Chapter. Regarding the participants of the project, Translations Department provides an opportunity to develop their skills, increase knowledge of the oil and gas industry, and stay updated on ongoing events and activities of the Chapter.
- Conference trips
is an opportunity for students to present their scientific work at the international forum, conference, congress. The list of sponsored conferences is published annually in February!
- HSE NOW
It is an opportunity to learn news and technical information affecting health, safety, security, environment, social responsibility, regulation, and quality aspects of the upstream oil and gas industry
