SPE Global Communication

On February 27, another video conference was held within the framework of the SPE Global Communication project. The call was attended by the activists of the Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter, as well as the representatives of other SPE Student Chapters from The University of Oklahoma (the USA) Middle East Technical University Northern Cyprus Campus Student Chapter (The Republic of Cyprus).

At the beginning of the call, a small ice-breaking was held, in which representatives of the universities told about themselves, why they decided to join SPE and what projects they are involved in.

Then the representatives of the GU SPE SC spoke about the main activities of their section, as well as its structure. The participants were interested in the language clubs of Gubkin University. At the moment, negotiations are underway with the University of Oklahoma regarding their participation in this project, both as teachers and as students.

Then the representatives of the OU SPE SC took the floor. First, they talked about the main awards and the structure of the section, then went on to talk about the projects. The section president noted that all the projects were completely transferred to the online format, which, on the one hand, is worse in terms of in-person communication between students and specialists, but on the other hand, it allowed them to expand their horizons and participate in online events along with universities and companies based in Europe, Central Asia, and Africa. At the end of their presentation, the representatives mentioned the North American Student Symposium (SPE NASS). It was noted that this event is an excellent opportunity for students and specialists to network with other students and professionals and learn more about the upcoming changes in the industry.

The last speaker was the representative of the METU NCC SPE SC. He told the other participants the main difficulties and changes in the projects of the section related to the pandemic. He also noted that one of the new online projects was podcasting with alumni and specialists. However, the project is currently at the "demo" stage, and so far one trial podcast has been recorded.
